Adobe PDF 1974 Ferrari 246 GTS “Dino”
Left-hand drive chassis number 06470 was delivered new to main agents Tayre Ferrari in Madrid in October 1974 and sold to an American citizen, William Kemmerer, its first owner. The latter was then serving with the USAF and brought the Dino back to the U.S. from Spain when his tour of duty was completed. Ferrari Market Letter records that the car was serviced by Algar Ferrari in Philadelphia in the late 1970’s and early 1980’s

Unveiled at the Geneva Salon in March 1966, the 330 GTC (Gran Tourismo Coupe) allied the 275 GTB chassis with the basic engine from the 330 GT 2+2. Coachwork was a compromise of the 400 Superamerica front blended to the rear tail treatment of the 275 GTS. The new car was a capable performer-fast, quiet, and comfortable.

Ferrari phased out the 365 GTC in 1969, leaving it without a luxury two-seat coupe in its model lineup. Daytona production was moving at a high rate but its Berlinetta characteristics didn’t satisfy an important Ferrari client group that wanted a Iuxurious Gran Turisrno. Into the breech Pininfarina and Ferrari launched the 365 GTC/4 at Ferrari’s usual new model introduction site, the Geneva Auto Show, in March 1971.

In 1964, Ferruccio Lamborghini unveiled his V12 competitor to Ferrari, the 350 GT, at the Geneva Auto Show. The car, which featured a four-cam, 3.5-liter V12 engine designed by Giotto Bizzarini, a tubular steel chassis, four-wheel independent suspension, four-wheel disc brakes and a ZF gearbox, was Lamborghini’s first serial-production GT. The automotive world loved it.

In the mid-l970s, a production-based formula (which would result in the dominant Porsche 935) was instituted by the FIA in Europe for Group 5 (Grand Touring) racing.
