1969 De Tomaso Mangusta, another Giugiaro masterpiece! Only one previous owner, that has lived in California all of its life. This car was stored in a dry California warehouse and has not been rusted or wrecked. It has not been on the road for 30 years. The rear side glasses and the windshield suffered damage while in storage. Otherwise this is a complete example ready for restoration and mechanical servicing.
Mangusta is the Italian word for Mongoose, the cobra-killing mammal, and rumors abound that De Tomaso built the Mangusta with his sights set firmly on the Shelby Cobra. The Mangusta we have on offer is a US specification car, and one of only 50 cars produced with 4 headlights. De Tomaso produced only 401 total Mangustas from 1967 until production ended in 1971.
The late-series Mangustas featured Ford’s 302 cubic inch engine, generating 221 horsepower, and also came equipped with a five-speed transmission, four-wheel disc brakes, rack and pinion steering, air conditioning, power windows, independent suspension, and the very cool gullwing doors that cover the engine and trunk.
Only 250 of the 401 Mangustas still remain according to the Mangusta registries.
